Volleyball Recap: Sahuarita Comes Up Short

After flying high against Cholla on Wednesday, Sahuarita came back down to earth. The Mustangs came up short against the Rio Rico Hawks on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

While Sahuarita ultimately came up short, they really made Rio Rico work, particularly in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-21.

Among those leading the charge was America Navarro, who had 17 assists and nine digs. That's the most digs she has posted since back in October of 2024.

With the loss, Sahuarita broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 10-7. As for Rio Rico, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.

Sahuarita will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Amphitheater at 6:00 p.m. on the 15th. As for Rio Rico, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Douglas at 6:00 p.m.
