After a string of three wins, St. Anthony's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Valley Christian Defenders by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Saints of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

St. Anthony wouldn't go down easily and took Valley Christian into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-15, 17-25, 26-28, 15-13.

Makayla Shepherd paced St. Anthony's offense, picking up 18 kills. Shepherd got some help from Maddison Stranz and her 35 assists. Shepherd was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

St. Anthony's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Valley Christian, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Coming up, St. Anthony will challenge Whittier at 3:15 p.m. on September 5. As for Valley Christian, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against California on the 28th.
