4A Region 8 recap October 22, 2013
Taylor Noles of Spanish Fork ran for the longest rushing play in 4A Region 8 this season against Provo last week. Noles' team beat the Bulldogs as he sprinted for 98 yards on the play and finished with 266 in all.
Wasatch lost to Timpview 35-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zach Purdy caught 6 passes for 55 yards in the defeat.
Spanish Fork's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jason Money threw for 150 and 1 touchdown and Joe Anderson had 114 yards receiving. On the ground Noles contributed 266 yards. Jade Nielsen helped Spanish Fork's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 36 yards.
Heber Shepherd made the biggest impact on defense this week as Kirk Chambers' team bested Provo. The 5-foot-10 junior recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Noles was a beast in the backfield as the Dons beat Cody Mallory's team.
Money put up the best numbers in passing as Spanish Fork defeated the Bulldogs. Money's favorite target this week was Anderson, who caught 9 passes for 114 yards.
Next week's game between the Dons and Salem Hills will feature a good passing match up as Money will test his arm against Scott Lyman's defensive ability. Spanish Fork's Money has thrown for 1,578 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, while Lyman has racked up 5 interceptions for the Skyhawks.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Salem Hills takes on the Dons. Joel Higginson's team is in second place, while Spanish Fork is in fifth place.
Maple Mountain made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,947 from 5,768. The advance stemmed from a 26-7 victory over the Skyhawks last week.
