Preview: Cambridge Academy Cougars vs. Newberry Academy
The Cambridge Academy Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against Newberry Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Cambridge Academy suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Easley HomeSchool by a score of 37-34. It was the first time this season that Cambridge Academy let down their fans at home.
Loss or not, Cambridge Academy got some senior leadership from Jillian Mapes and Indya Southerland. Mapes scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals, while Southerland. scored 11 points along with three steals. Southerland hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Izzy Southerland, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Newberry Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell to Richard Winn Academy 26-21. Newberry Academy has not had much luck with Richard Winn Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Cambridge Academy's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for Newberry Academy, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-11.
Cambridge Academy strolled past Newberry Academy in their previous meeting last Friday by a score of 33-19. Will Cambridge Academy repeat their success, or does Newberry Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
