Doherty Memorial is 8-1 against Notre Dame Academy since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Highlanders will take on the Rebels at 3:45 p.m. Doherty Memorial's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Notre Dame Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Doherty Memorial was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against North on Thursday. The Highlanders put the hurt on the Polar Bears with a sharp 13-1 victory. Considering the Highlanders have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Audrey Lefebvre was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Panagiotou, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Doherty Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Notre Dame Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Millbury 6-5.
Erin Connor made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Connor was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Sharry, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Maddy Burgoyne, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Notre Dame Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Doherty Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Doherty Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
