Recap: Sheldon Irish vs. South Eugene Axe
The Sheldon Irish pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Eugene. Sheldon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as South Eugene apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
South Eugene's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Levi Hawes, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of koen thurman, who scored ten points.
This is the second loss in a row for Sheldon and nudges their season record down to 8-7. As for South Eugene, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sheldon will square off against Grants Pass at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Grants Pass and Sheldon are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. South Eugene's road trip will continue as they head out to face Roseburg at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th. Roseburg presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Eugene in Oregon (Roseburg is ranked 34th, while South Eugene is ranked 85th).
