Basketball Game Preview: Thomas Stone Cougars vs. Westlake Wolverines

Thomas Stone and Westlake are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but not for long. The Thomas Stone Cougars will face off against the Westlake Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Thomas Stone is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 67-29 victory over Patuxent. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Kaden Jackson had a dynamite game for Thomas Stone, going 6-for-11 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Jackson has posted since back in December of 2024. Tyler Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Thomas Stone smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Westlake posted their closest victory since February 5, 2024 last Friday. They pulled ahead with a 1-0 photo finish over Fairmont Heights. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wolverines' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th in Maryland, while the Hornets are ranked 66th in Maryland).

The victory made it two in a row for Westlake and bumps their season record up to 6-17. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.5 points over those games. As for Thomas Stone, their record now sits at 5-17.

Thomas Stone came up short against Westlake when the teams last played last Thursday, falling 61-51. Can Thomas Stone avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
