Baseball Recap: Honesdale Gets the Win

Honesdale proved they can win big last Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Holy Cross Crusaders, sneaking past 5-3. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 10-8 victory the Crusaders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Honesdale got a great performance from Brody Patrisso as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Patrisso also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Hornets are 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Duke Martin was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Landen Estus was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Honesdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win got Honesdale back to even at 5-5. As for Holy Cross, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Looking ahead, Honesdale will head out to take on Lake-Lehman at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Holy Cross, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dunmore at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
