Softball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Marion's 11th in Last 14 Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Marion rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the Lytle Pirates 11-1. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Alizayah Bernal spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marion got a massive performance out of Maggie Luna, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI. Luna has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gianna Ricarte, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Marion kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Marion is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lytle, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-14-1.

As of now, neither Marion nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
