Football Recap: Hargrave Comes Up Short on the Road Against La Marque

Hargrave kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 49-38 to the La Marque Cougars. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Hargrave's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Drayden Bacon, who rushed for 195 yards and three scores while picking up 9.8 yards per carry, and Nolan Cook, who rushed for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries.

La Marque's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deuce Walker led the charge by rushing for 77 yards and one TD on only seven carries, while also throwing for 176 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Cory Hosea was another key player, rushing for 176 yards and one score while picking up 8.4 yards per carry.

Coming up, Hargrave will host Furr at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for La Marque, they will venture away from home to challenge Wheatley at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
