Softball Game Preview: El Capitan Vaqueros vs. West Hills Wolf Pack

El Capitan hasn't had much luck against West Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Vaqueros will look to defend their home field against the Wolf Pack at 4:00 p.m. El Capitan will be strutting in after a win while West Hills will be coming in after a defeat.

On Monday, El Capitan was able to grind out a solid victory over Helix, taking the game 5-1.

Makenna Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brynlie Ford, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Gabrielle Garcia was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, West Hills entered their matchup against Steele Canyon on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wolf Pack fell 6-3 to the Cougars.

Kristina Deal was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Katy Spargo, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

El Capitan has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8-1.
