Baseball Recap: Wellsville Tigers vs. East Palestine Bulldogs
Wellsville had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it ten. They came up short against the East Palestine Bulldogs, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the first time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-3 defeat on Wednesday.
Wellsville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyrell Watkins, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Richie Wyse also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for East Palestine, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs.
On East Palestine's side, Phoenix Marvin was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Marvin was also big at the plate, earning two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Peyton Rutledge was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kyler Bourne, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: East Palestine beat Wellsville by a score of 8-3 later that day.
