Baseball Recap: Calhoun's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Calhoun dropped their record down to 12-4-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Collegiate Dutchmen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 8-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Josh Mandel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerve' Atsin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

As for Collegiate, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

On Collegiate's side, Ethan Chung tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit.

At the plate, Collegiate let Alex Sabat and Ale' Propper-Bowring run wild. Sabat went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Propper-Bowring got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jack Deblasi, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Calhoun will venture away from home to square off against Masters at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Collegiate, they have already played their next match, a 12-3 defeat against Horace Mann on the 2nd.
