Preview: Gregory Gorillas vs. Platte/Geddes Black Panthers
Gregory is 2-7 against Platte/Geddes since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gregory Gorillas will head out on the road to face off against the Platte/Geddes Black Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Gregory focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
Gregory struggled with threes on Thursday (St. Mary's had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Gregory was beaten by St. Mary's 67-25. Gregory was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-16.
Despite the loss, Gregory saw an underclassman step up: Ella Sperl scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Regan Graesser was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Platte/Geddes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 44-29 bruising from Andes Central/Dakota Christian.
Gregory's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Platte/Geddes, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 0-2.
Gregory didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Platte/Geddes in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 47-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gregory since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
