Basketball Game Preview: Prince of Peace Eagles vs. Covenant Christian Cougars

The Prince of Peace Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Covenant Christian Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Prince of Peace is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 98-39 victory over Coram Deo Academy. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while the Lions are ranked 1371st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Covenant Christian duked it out withCoram Deo Academy on Monday. Covenant Christian really took it to Coram Deo Academy for the full four quarters, racking up an 89-34 win. With the Cougars ahead 47-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Prince of Peace better focus on containing Aaron Turner and AJ Guerra as the pair were huge in Covenant Christian's win. Turner went 9 for 15 en route to 23 points in addition to five boards and five steals, while Guerra almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. That's the most steals Turner has posted since back in February of 2024. Luke Emison was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and five steals.

Covenant Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Covenant Christian's third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Prince of Peace, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-14 record this season.

Prince of Peace was taken down by Covenant Christian 64-21 when the teams last played back in December of 2021. Can Prince of Peace avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
