Basketball Recap: Apex Comes Up Short

Apex lost against Middle Creek back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Apex Cougars took a hard 55-36 fall against the Middle Creek Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 155th).

Despite the loss, Apex still got an impressive performance from Zaelyn White, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. White's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Ethan Balos was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Middle Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Yasir Hall out in front who posted 20 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least a third of Middle Creek's points. Another player making a difference was Greyson Land, who put up 15 points and seven boards.

Apex's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Middle Creek, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-9.

Apex didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-46 defeat against Panther Creek on the 31st. As for Middle Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-59 loss against Holly Springs on the 31st.
