Basketball Preview: Northwest Rankin Cougars vs. Ridgeland Titans
The Northwest Rankin Cougars will be playing at home against the Ridgeland Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Northwest Rankin came into Tuesday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They strolled past Oak Grove with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 55-38.
Meanwhile, Ridgeland faced the Gators in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Ridgeland's way against the Gators on Tuesday as the Titans made off with a 77-57 victory. The victory was familiar territory for Ridgeland who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ridgeland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Phil Nelson, who scored 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Nelson has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ebo Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 22 rebounds.
Northwest Rankin's victory bumped their record up to 8-17. As for Ridgeland, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.
Northwest Rankin beat the Titans 67-59 in their previous matchup back in December of 2020. Does Northwest Rankin have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
