Baseball Game Preview: Geneseo Maple Leafs vs. Washington Panthers

The Geneseo Maple Leafs will head out to square off against the Washington Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Last Saturday, Geneseo didn't have quite enough to beat Ottawa and fell 5-4. The Maple Leafs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Washington and Metamora, and Washington kept the tradition alive. The Panthers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Redbirds a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Panthers have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Washington has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Geneseo, their loss dropped their record down to 15-19.

Geneseo couldn't quite get it done against Washington when the teams last played back in June of 2021 as they fell 7-2. Can the Maple Leafs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
