Softball Recap: St. Pius X Sartans vs. Goddard Rockets
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Pius X had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past the Goddard Rockets 4-2.
Lilee Zarate spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aubri Hooee was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Trujillo, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
St. Pius X has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-14 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Goddard, they dropped their record down to 15-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Coming up, St. Pius X will square off against Lovington at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Sartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Goddard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
