Basketball Game Preview: Key West Conchs vs. Mater Lakes Academy Bears

Key West is 0-3 against Mater Lakes Academy since November of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The Key West Conchs will look to defend their home court against the Mater Lakes Academy Bears at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Key West is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 24th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They received a blow as they fell 44-28 to St. Brendan. While losing is never fun, the Conchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 566th, while the Sabres are ranked 255th).

Meanwhile, Mater Lakes Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Sports Leadership & Management, falling 79-55.

Despite the defeat, Mater Lakes Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Vanessa Vancott went 10 for 24 on her way to 36 points. The game was Vancott's 15th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alessandra Wandembergh, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Mater Lakes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Key West, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
