Football Recap: Venice Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Tyree Mannings and Darryon Jones

After flying high against Lehigh last Friday, Venice came back down to earth. The Indians fell 27-14 to the IMG Academy Ascenders on Friday. The Indians have struggled against the Ascenders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Venice's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Darryon Jones, who threw for 204 yards and one touchdown, and Tyree Mannings, who picked up 138 receiving yards. The Indians are 2-1 when Mannings posts 100 or more receiving yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

IMG Academy found their leader in sophomore Eric McFarland, who picked up 117 receiving yards and three TDs. Those 117 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for McFarland. Another signal caller making a difference was Jayden Wade, who threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Venice's record is now 3-3. As for IMG Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Venice will host Riverview Sarasota at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will need to watch out since the Rams have now posted at least 31 points in their last six games. As for IMG Academy, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
