Softball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello extended their losing streak to 11 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Magic of the 4-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Monticello saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josi Ordorff, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Ordorff has snagged this season.

As for Sartell-St. Stephen, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average this season.

On Sartell-St. Stephen's side, Marni Koosmann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. Koosmann has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Looking ahead, Monticello will head out on the road to square off against Princeton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sartell-St. Stephen, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Detroit Lakes at 4:30 p.m.
