Circle Christian scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 79-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Orangewood Christian Rams. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Centurions still had to take the loss.
Several Centurions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Whisler, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 23 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Whisler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Joel Velazquez, who went 8 of 18 en route to 23 points along with five boards and four steals.
Whisler wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Circle Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.
Orangewood Christian found their leader in sophomore Ethan Toadvine, who posted 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Toadvine has scored all season. Luke Ulmer was another key player, putting up 13 points.
Circle Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Orangewood Christian, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-11.
Circle Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 74-36 defeat against Mount Dora Christian Academy on the 18th. As for Orangewood Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-44 victory against Elite Prep Academy on the 21st.
