Basketball Recap: Nixon Beats Mission for Their Sixth Straight Win

Nixon extended their winning streak to six games thanks to a huge performance from Mason Vela. The Nixon Mustangs simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Mission Eagles 86-51 thanks in part to Vela, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine assists. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Mark Ordonez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season. What's more, he also racked up 11 points, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Mission still got an impressive performance from Leon Villarreal, who went 9 of 20 en route to 22 points along with eight boards and four steals. Villarreal is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jared Castro, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points.

Nixon is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 19-9 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 45.3 points. As for Mission, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Nixon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 102-45 victory against Roma on the 10th. Mission has also already played their next game (against Mission Veterans Memorial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
