Baseball Recap: Lake Country Lutheran Beats Luther Prep for Their Third Straight Win

Lake Country Lutheran had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Luther Prep Phoenix by a score of 12-7. The Lightning have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Phoenix, too.

David Nehls looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lake Country Lutheran let Grant Manthei and Gabe Snyder run wild. Manthei went 4-for-5 with four RBI and one run, while Snyder went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave Manthei a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Preston Manthei, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Lake Country Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Lake Country Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Luther Prep, they dropped their record down to 7-14 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Lake Country Lutheran will square off against Altoona at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Luther Prep, they will face off against Johnson Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
