Softball Recap: Seymour Comes Up Short

Seymour started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Winneconne. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves on Thursday. The Thunder's defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Kendra Rettler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Adde Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Addison Wery was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Seymour's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Winneconne, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Seymour will take on Shawano Community at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Winneconne, they will square off against Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Chargers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
