Softball Game Preview: Hackensack Comets vs. Ridgewood Maroons

Hackensack hasn't had much luck against Ridgewood recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Comets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Maroons at 4:15 p.m. Hackensack is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Hackensack managed to slip by Teaneck the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Comets came up short against the Highwaymen on Monday, falling 10-4. Comets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Highwaymen since Monday.

Janae Neal and Briana Darling stepped up to the plate in a big way. Neal went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Darling went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Darling is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Ridgewood narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fair Lawn 5-4.

Ridgewood pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Hackensack, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11-1.
