Softball Game Preview: Fisher Gators vs. Ascension Catholic Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Fisher will face off against Ascension Catholic. The Gators will head out to square off against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Fisher is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Fisher came up short against Ascension Catholic on Saturday, falling 13-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Gators in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

For Ascension Catholic's part, Ava Gauthe was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Gauthe has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Viallon, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lillie Young was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Ascension Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fisher only posted a batting average of .227.

Ascension Catholic's record now sits at 22-8. As for Fisher, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Sunday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fisher has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ascension Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
