Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Marauders vs. Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks

Mitchell hasn't had much luck against Cheyenne Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mitchell Marauders will welcome the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Cheyenne Mountain took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Mitchell, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 11 losses in a row dating back to last season, Mitchell turned things around against DSST: Green Valley Ranch back in December of 2024. They came out on top against the Raptors by a score of 31-21. The Marauders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Mitchell found their leader in sophomore Isabella WIlkInson, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, 19 boards, and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wilkinson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was JayCionna Fisher, who posted ten points and four steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Cheyenne Mountain's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were outmatched by Sierra and fell 49-20. The contest marked the Red-Tailed Hawks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cheyenne Mountain now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Mitchell, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Mitchell suffered a grim 67-42 defeat to Cheyenne Mountain when the teams last played back in January of 2021. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mitchell was down 36-13.
