Preview: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Gallia Academy Blue Devils
The Portsmouth Trojans will be playing at home against the Gallia Academy Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Portsmouth focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Portsmouth ultimately got the result they hoped for. They snuck past Rock Hill with a 72-66 win. Given Portsmouth's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Rock Hill is ranked 623rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Deandre Berry, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Donnovan Breech was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Gallia Academy suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Rock Hill by a score of 42-40. Gallia Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The win makes it two in a row for Portsmouth and bumps their season record up to 9-3. As for Gallia Academy, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Portsmouth strolled past Gallia Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 65-47. Will Portsmouth repeat their success, or does Gallia Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
