Basketball Recap: Whiteland Falls Despite Big Games from Bryanna Gillock and Sophia Dyer

Whiteland lost against Shelbyville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Whiteland Warriors took a 43-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shelbyville Golden Bears. The Warriors' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Sophia Dyer and Bryanna Gillock certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Dyer dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards, while Gillock posted six points and seven rebounds. That was a full 46.7% of Whiteland's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Whiteland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Shelbyville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddy Jones out in front who went 5 of 8 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hannah Baker, who had eight points along with nine steals and six assists.

Whiteland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Shelbyville, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.

Whiteland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 66-55 loss against Franklin Community on the 25th. Shelbyville has also already played their next contest, a 55-54 win against Delta on the 25th.
