Basketball Recap: Devin Slawnyk's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Centennial over Thayer Central

Centennial lost against Thayer Central last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Centennial Broncos took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thayer Central Titans. While the Broncos didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Titans 16-9 in the first quarter.

Centennial lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Devin Slawnyk, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Slawnyk is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Sam Ehlers was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Sam Souerdyke continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Thayer Central, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Dankenbring, who posted nine points.

Centennial has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Thayer Central, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Coming up, Centennial will head out on the road to challenge Heartland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Thayer Central, they will take on Fillmore Central in a tournament on Saturday. Fillmore Central will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Thayer Central surely won't give up without a fight.
