Baseball Recap: Bangor Find Success

Bangor won against Notre Dame-Green Pond on Monday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Slaters walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Wilson Area Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Slaters: when they faced off against the Warriors back in March, they had to take a 11-1 loss.

Gino Merlo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bangor is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-7 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaxson Kreider, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Bangor's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Chayse Panczer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Bangor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Bangor and bumps their season record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Wilson Area, their record now sits at 7-10.
