Baseball Recap: Sayre Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Sayre took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Frederick Douglass, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Broncos on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted against the Broncos since May 31, 2021.

Sayre got a great performance from Jaxson Howard as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Howard posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Sayre saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reed Beatty, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Sayre pushed their record up to 23-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Frederick Douglass, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sayre will host DuPont Manual at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Frederick Douglass, they will welcome Woodford County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Broncos' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
