Baseball Recap: Malvern Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Canton, Malvern was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over the Wellsville Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-1 back in April.

Malvern got a great performance from Jared Witherow as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Witherow has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Malvern let Cameron Good and Owen Warth run wild. Good went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Warth went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Warth has become a key player for Malvern: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Cobb, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Malvern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.8.

Malvern's record is now 8-14. As for Wellsville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-19.

Malvern didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-2 victory against Aquinas on the 16th. Wellsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
