Baseball Game Preview: Spotsylvania Knights vs. Culpeper County Blue Devils

The Spotsylvania Knights will take on the Culpeper County Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spotsylvania will be strutting in after a win while Culpeper County will be coming in after a defeat.

Spotsylvania came out on top against Chancellor on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Knights put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 13-3 victory. Considering the Knights have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Spotsylvania got a great performance from Russell Lohr as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. The dominant performance also gave Lohr a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Spotsylvania let Jay Siefker and Landen Fisher run wild. Siefker went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Fisher went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Fisher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nathan Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Spotsylvania always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Culpeper County came up short against King George on Tuesday and fell 5-2. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Foxes recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Spotsylvania pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Culpeper County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Spotsylvania came out on top in a nail-biter against Culpeper County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
