Basketball Recap: Jefferson Comes Up Short

After flying high against Sheridan last Monday, Jefferson came back down to earth. The Jefferson Saints lost 46-26 to the Bennett Tigers on Thursday. The game marked the Saints' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the loss, Jefferson still got an impressive performance from T Nutter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 22 boards. Nutter is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Meadow Mondragon, who posted eight points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Jessica Venneberg continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bennett, going 7 for 13 en route to 17 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Venneberg has scored at least a third of Bennett's points. Olivia Schroeder was another key player, putting up six points and six steals.

The defeat snapped Jefferson's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-5 record. As for Bennett, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Jefferson will venture away from home to challenge Englewood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is facing Englewood at the right time seeing as Englewood is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Bennett has already played their next contest (against Sheridan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
