Preview: Armstrong Wildcats vs. Patrick Henry Patriots
Armstrong has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Patrick Henry Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Armstrong and Patrick Henry are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
Armstrong suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 98-36 loss at the hands of Varina. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Armstrong has scored all season.
Despite their loss, Armstrong saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. De'vonte Walker, who scored 16 points, was perhaps the best of all. Walker is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Epps, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Patrick Henry entered their tilt with Mechanicsville with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Patrick Henry came out on top against Mechanicsville by a score of 64-56 on Friday. Given Patrick Henry's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Mechanicsville is ranked 329th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Armstrong's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Patrick Henry, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Armstrong came up short against Patrick Henry in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 57-48. Can Armstrong avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
