Missouri: Phoebus Takes Over Vault Lead

Lee's Summit West's Drew Phoebus and Taylor Manaco finished 1-2 respectively in the pole vault at last Friday's Lee's Summit Relays, allowing the Titans to net 119 points and claim the boys team title.

Now the duo sits at or near the top of the state's track and field leader boards.

After a slow start Friday, Phoebus rose to the top of the state's pole vault list with a personal best effort of 15-foot. Manaco, meanwhile, finds himself tied with Nixa's Seaton Owensby, St. Clair's Michael Jurgens and North County's Jeff Wilfong for third place on the charts after clearing his personal best 14-6 Friday.

"It's fantastic," Phoebus told the Lee's Summit Journal following his personal best leap. "I've never felt that way before in my life. Fifteen feet is just amazing. I'm a little shocked right now."



After failing on his first attempt at 12-6, the realization that he may no-height looked Phoebus square in the eye. But the Titan over came his slow start and rallied for the win.

Raymore-Peculiar's Mike Hudson finished the overhaul of the pole vault standings by winning his specialty with a 14-7 conquering at the Belton Invitational. Hudson sits second on this week's leader board.
