Basketball Recap: Dawson Macklin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Valley Mills

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Meyer, Rio Vista was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Valley Mills Eagles 49-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Rio Vista has posted since December 7, 2024.

Rio Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dawson Macklin led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. That's the most boards Macklin has posted since back in December of 2023. Kaiden Scott was another key player, putting up ten points.

Rio Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Rio Vista's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Valley Mills, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Coincidentally, Rio Vista and Valley Mills will both be playing Meridian the next time they take the court. Rio Vista will head out to face Meridian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Valley Mills will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on January 14th.
