Basketball Game Preview: Aransas Pass Panthers vs. Mathis Pirates

Aransas Pass is on a three-game streak of home losses, Mathis a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Aransas Pass Panthers will host the Mathis Pirates at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Aransas Pass is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against West Oso on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Aransas Pass came up short against West Oso, falling 57-35. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1085th, while the Bears are ranked 260th).

Mathis might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 81-28 to West Oso, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-17.

Aransas Pass will need focus on slowing down Jaelee Garcia, one of several Mathis players who made an impact when they last played. She posted four points.

Mathis' loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Aransas Pass, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-19.
