Football Game Preview: Bowie Bulldogs vs. Dripping Springs Tigers

Bowie is 0-3 against Dripping Springs since September of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Bowie took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 48-21 win over Del Valle. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 48-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cardinals cut but never quite recovered from.

Rhys Moreno was his usual excellent self, rushing for 172 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 13 rushing touchdowns on the season.

Meanwhile, Dripping Springs strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They really took it to Austin for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-14 victory. With the Tigers ahead 28-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Bowie better keep an eye on Chase Ames. He was instrumental in Dripping Springs' win, throwing for 393 yards and six TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes, and also punching in one rushing score. Ames has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. James Montgomery was another key player, picking up 177 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Bowie's record is now 4-2. As for Dripping Springs, their record now sits at 6-0.

The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Bowie has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 244.7 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Dripping Springs has preferred to attack from the air: they average 319.3 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.

Bowie couldn't quite finish off Dripping Springs in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 and fell 38-35. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
