The King Philip Regional Warriors will face off against the Xaverian Brothers Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games King Philip Regional has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
King Philip Regional is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: Attleboro, who was ranked 25th at the time (King Philip Regional was ranked eighth). The Warriors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bombardiers 2-1. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Bombardiers on their field since April 28, 2022.
Ryan Higgins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, King Philip Regional's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leo Dowling, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Dowling a new career-high. Another was Drew Herlin, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Xaverian Brothers was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Feehan. The Hawks' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Xaverian Brothers also got a good showing from Colin Mont, who struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk).
King Philip Regional's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-4. As for Xaverian Brothers, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. King Philip Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Xaverian Brothers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
