Softball Game Preview: Nazareth Academy vs. Archbishop Carroll Patriots

Nazareth Academy are taking a road trip to take on the Archbishop Carroll Patriots at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Nazareth Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Nazareth Academy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 11) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Archbishop Ryan 4-2.

Jill DiMario spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alaira Rios, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

Meanwhile, while it was Archbishop Carroll who put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, it was Cardinal O'Hara who put up more. The Patriots took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Nazareth Academy's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-4. As for Archbishop Carroll, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Nazareth Academy suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Archbishop Carroll in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Nazareth Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
