Basketball Game Preview: Riverside Warriors vs. Capital Cougars

The Riverside Warriors will take on the Capital Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverside has now lost 15 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 10.

Last Tuesday, Riverside came up short against Ripley and fell 50-40.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ava Ward, who went 5-for-12 en route to 13 points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds she has posted since back in February of 2024. Laila Campbell was another key player, going 6-for-15 to rack up 14 points.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Capital ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They walked away with a 60-48 win over Hoover. The squad ran away with 35 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Capital's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.

Everything came up roses for Riverside against Capital when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 61-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverside since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
