Baseball Game Preview: Beaufort Academy Eagles vs. Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels

The Beaufort Academy Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaufort Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Beaufort Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Battery Creek, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Dolphins on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Tucker Scoggins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Keeler Dineen was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Beaufort Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Jace Paulk was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Beaufort Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thomas Heyward Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Patrick Henry Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rebels have suffered against the Patriots since March 6, 2018.

Thomas Heyward Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colton Young, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Tyler Young also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Thomas Heyward Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Beaufort Academy, their record now sits at 2-5.
