Recap: Sanderson Spartans vs. Apex Cougars

The Sanderson Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 48-30 to Apex. Sanderson has not had much luck with Apex recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Sanderson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Summer Haith, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Amyah Lynn who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 43.3% of Sanderson's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Sanderson struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Apex racked up 15 assists.

Isabella Pease was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals for Apex. Pease hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Destiny Richardson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Sanderson has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Apex, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Sanderson will head out on the road to challenge Athens Drive at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Athens Drive focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. As for Apex, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Middle Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Middle Creek is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
