Basketball Recap: Covert Comes Up Short

Covert played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 57-4 defeat at the hands of the South Bend Career Academy Trailblazers. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-2.

Despite the loss, Covert still got an impressive performance from Maeva Martinez, who posted four points in addition to 19 rebounds and five steals.

Alana Wright was a one-woman wrecking crew for South Bend Career Academy as she put up 22 points. The dominant performance gave Wright a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Muliyah Kelley, who had ten points.

Covert now has a losing record at 1-2. As for South Bend Career Academy, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covert will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Our Lady of the Lake Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. South Bend Career Academy will take on Culver Community in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
