Recap: Oxford Prep Griffins vs. Varsity Opponent
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Voyager, the Oxford Prep Griffins were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Varsity Opponent by a score of 54-44. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Oxford Prep also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2016.
Oxford Prep had a senior duo take command as AleYaun Heggie dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds and Jamarri Glover scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Heggie is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Drew West, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Oxford Prep's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Varsity Opponent, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 249-940-2 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oxford Prep will take on Eno River at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eno River has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Varsity Opponent, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lawrence Upper at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lawrence Upper is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.9 points per game.
