Softball Recap: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Santa Maria Saints
Orcutt Academy can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They never let the Santa Maria Saints onto the board and left with a 12-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what Orcutt Academy needed considering they were shutout in their previous matchup.
Valerie Gonzales made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Gonzales has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances. Gonzales was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Jaylene Roybal was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Laeney Maycotte, who scored a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
